Partnership to provide tech training

(Business News)

ENGINEERS and technicians in the manufacturing sector now have an opportunity to learn more about automation and e-manufacturing applications so as to become more productive.

This followed a partnership forged between Might-Meteor Advance Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and LKT Support Services Sdn Bhd to offer postgraduate and short courses in training and technical services.

Under the pact, both parties will offer efficiency of business operations and technical competency through the implementation of electronic quality management system (eQMS) and proliferation of equipment support programme (ESP).

Locally developed, eQMS is designed as a paperless Web-based QMS that offers savings and convenience to users of various global industries. EPS is intended to provide engineers and technicians with “accelerated experience” to enhance their technical competencies, typically in the support of highly automated manufacturing facilities.

Datuk Dr Ahmed Tasir Lope Pihie, chairman of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (Might), said the EPS programme encourages hands-on practice with training kits, and if the situation permits, actual manufacturing equipment will be used to simulate issues. “Apart from technical skills, the programme will also instil positive behavioural aspects where trainees will learn the art of selling an idea to the higher management and problem-solving methods.”

For the initial stage, Might-Meteor will take in 500 engineers and technicians from multinational corporations and local manufacturing companies to undergo on-the-job training. The training will be conducted at the respective company premises, Advance Manufacturing Institute (AMI) in Seri Kembangan and the Open University.

Under the agreement, LKT has also committed to set up two machines costing more than RM200,000 for training purposes at AMI. Another course in the pipeline is the Designers Proficiency Programme, which is expected to be launched in the next quarter. Structured to produce designers, the programme will include designing, choosing materials and soft skills like human relations.
