“Program Inovasi Desa”- Biotechnopreneurs in Making

Biotek Malaysia, MOSTI in Collaboration with MIGHT-METEOR Advanced Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd. launched its 1st and 2nd Phase of the Program targeted for Rural Community at Kudat and Kota Marudu, Sabah held on 25 – 29 August and 20 – 23 October 2008.

MIGHT–METEOR Advanced Manufacturing Sdn Bhd and Biotek Malaysia, MOSTI (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovative) had successfully developed the rural community program known as “Program Inovasi Desa”. The Aim of these programs is to introduce biotechnology as a tool to create and generate wealth to the community and to develop entrepreneurs in Biotechnology. Three areas have been explored particularly on Bio-fermentation of Animal Feed (Makanan Ternakan Haiwan), Organic Fertilizer production (Baja Organik) and Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) production.

Each program consists of 5 phases and the duration of the program is 18 months. AMI had successfully conducted the 1st phase of the program held on 25 – 29 August and the 2nd phase was held on 20 – 23 October 2008 at Library Hall, Kudat, Sabah. The program was supported by Jabatan Pertanian Kota Marudu and Jabatan Perkhidmatan Haiwan Dan Perusahaan Ternak Sabah. For the 1st phase of the program, 120 participants attended the Awareness Program of the VCO, Animal Feed and Organic Fertilizer. This was followed by the 2nd phase with 71 participants attended intensive training and business development module. As a result, participants are well equipped with simple method in exploiting natural resources in surrounding environments that can generate income.

MIGHT-METEOR will continue to conduct the 3rd Phase of the program at the end of November 2008. The program will concentrate on business and product development of Bio-fermentation for animal feed, organic fertilizer production and virgin coconut oil production.
