The onset of globalization and trade liberalization has made it
necessary for Malaysia to accelerate its efforts to promote sustainable
economic growth through high technology. These changes pose various
challenges to the Malaysian manufacturing industry. Manufacturers
now have to cope with shorter product development cycle, faster
time to market, pressures to reduce operational cost, and also
the challenges to keep up with fast-paced of the application of
information and communications technologies (“ICT”).
In response to these challenges, Malaysian firms will have to
continue to adjust their mode of operations from labour intensive
towards technology and knowledge based operations, and thus improve
the manufacturing value chain as outlined in the Manufacturing
++ strategy of the Second Industrial Master Plan (IMP2).
To cope with these changes manufacturers must
provide continuous education, training and retraining of their
workers. The current manpower in the industry, particularly those
at the managerial and supervisory strata need to keep up with
this electronic environment, acquire new knowledge and skills
in order to adapt to these changes.
The Advanced Manufacturing Institute (“AMI”)
is dedicated to the provision of quality training & education
programmes, technology management, knowledge transfer, advisory
services and R&D facilities & services to Malaysian companies
for the incorporation of advanced manufacturing technologies.
The collaboration partners of AMI are METEOR Technology, MIGHT
Technology Nurturing, University of Warwick, Queensland Manufacturing
Institute (Australia) and FIAS (France). |
